Thoughts from BlackRock on tokenisation
As we prepare to say goodbye 2024, it is worth asking why BlackRock has just published this video on Bitcoin? Interesting that BlackRock published this on Facebook and not another social media site but, then again, Facebook does have over 3 billion active users a month. Part of the answer may be found in this short video from Larry Fink, CEO, of world’s biggest asset manager, bestowing the benefits of tokenisation.

The impact Bitcoin has had on the world economy is not simply to potentially offer an alternative global currency but highlight the power of the technology that powers Bitcoin - blockchain technology. Fink’s passion and belief in tokenisation is undoubtedly impacting equities, real estate, commodities, bonds, funds, money, and, therefore, payments.
Quantum computing
The Willow quantum chip is Google's latest breakthrough in quantum computing. Whilst the hardware itself (e.g., Willow chip) does not dramatically advance technology, Google's approach significantly reduces errors, so addressing one of quantum computing's biggest challenges: noise.
This progress paves the way for applications in cryptography, material science and potentially AI, but much work remains before achieving commercial viability. The milestone highlights the growing momentum in the quantum computing ecosystem, drawing parallels to the early evolution of classical computing. Google’s new quantum chip completed a test problem in less than five minutes - a problem that would take the fastest supercomputer on Earth a staggering 10 septillion years to solve. For context, that is longer than the universe has existed.
Watch Google’s YouTube explanation…..fascinating, but you may need a strong coffee to concentrate!
